Benefits of yoga for eyes

Eyes are the gateway through which an individual gets a vision to observe the beauty of the nature. It is the vision of the eyes through which we are able to perform our daily activities. In the list of the top most important organs of the body; eye definitely has been one of the most important organs if not the most important one. There are several disorders which can deteriorate the health of the eye. Individuals who are looking for a natural and promising solution to not only boost the health of the eye but also treat the disorders affecting them should adopt yoga therapy for eyes.

Yoga has the potential to treat nearly every disorder of the eyes except blindness. There are several asanas in yoga that can help in alleviating the disorders plaguing the eyes of an individual. The muscles of the eyes gain strength through the regular practice of yoga. There are asanas in yoga that boost the blood circulation in the entire head. Thus freshly oxygenated blood flowing in the eyes prevents it from several disorders. Yoga provides assistance in reducing the strain on the eyes. Bhramari Pranayam

Bhramari pranayam involves imitating the humming of a bee. To do these asana sit in padmasana ensuring that your spine is straight. Close your ears by using your thumbs and your eyes by keeping the three fingers above them gently. Put your index fingers gently on your forehead above your eyebrows. Breathe in deeply and while exhaling make a humming sound from your throat. The vibrations in the body created by the humming during Bhramari pranayam helps in strengthening the muscles of the eyes.

In addition to yoga, a healthy diet is necessary for maintaining the health of the eye. A balanced diet also protect the eye from various disorders. Since childhood, we have been listening that eating greeny leafy vegetables is good for eyes. This notion holds truth. Incorporating food products like swiss chard, spinach and kale are advantageous as they are a rich source of carotenoids, zeaxanthin and lutein.

Consumption of organically pastured egg yolks, protein, and healthy fat is also good for eyes. Including foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids like wild salmon helps in improving the retinal function. Besides this, if a person suffering from eye problem has been prescribed any medication, then it must be taken regularly as advised by the doctor.
