Tinnitus is when you experience ringing or other noises in one or both of your ears. The noise you hear when you have tinnitus isn't caused by an external sound, and other people usually can't hear it. Tinnitus is a common problem. It affects about 15% to 20% of people, and is especially common in older adults.

Dear lybrate-user, relax, salicylic acid has no role to play in the treatment of tinnitus. It also causes acidity as a side effect. You have not given a proper history of your symptoms like is there associated vertigo or hearing loss. You require a thorough neuro-otologic evaluation, please consult a good ent specialist at the earliest. Sincerely.dr. Vilas.

This ringing happens when the loud noise damages the very fine hair cells that line your ear. Long exposure to sounds over 85 decibels (db) can cause hearing loss.

The most effective treatments for tinnitus involve noise-canceling headphones, cognitive behavioral therapy, background music and lifestyle changes. Tinnitus (pronounced either “tin-uh-tus” or “tin-ny-tus”) is a sound in the ears, like ringing, buzzing, whistling, or even roaring.

At bedtime, the world goes silent and that lack of noise creates confusion in the brain in response to it. The brain only knows one thing to do when that happens – create noise even if it's not real. In other words, tinnitus gets worse at night because it's too quiet.
