Its borderline. Iincrease intake of animal products. If you are vegetarian, you may increase milk and yogurt in the diet. Also if vegetarian, you will need to supplement with capsules as diet alone will not be able to correct the deficiency.

Dear lybrate-user, b12 deficinecy is actually more common in vegetarians. It is possible you may have less acid production in the stomach due to some cause-some medicines and excessive use of antacids can also cause this. An intrinsic factor deficiency can also be a cause. You can get an intrinsic factor antibody test to rule this out.
In any case, supplements or injections of vitamon b12 can help you get your levles back to normal, though it could take a few weeks to show any result

Dear lybrate-user
between the two, neurobion forte has more b12. The other option is becosule forte. However, it is unlikely that any of these would benefit you as the dose is very less. A much higher dose or injections would be better.
Moreover, it is important to find the cause. Have you done the ifab test? Is there a reason established for the deficiency? Without correcting the cause, it will not be of much use to simply supplement with b12.

No matter extent of deficiency, b vitamins are water soluble and are invariantly removed from urine at high doses, so taking b vitamins more than recommended daily allowance is of no actual benefit.

Though it is a category b drug, it is better to avoid it. Some dietary changes are very helpful in this period. Alternative drugs are also available. You can contact me if you like for more information.

Absorption of some vitamins are decreased in case of capsules and some people aren't able to absorb vitamin b12 at all. If that's the case then your current doctor is right in advising injections only - you should trust his clinical judgement. But there are tests to determine if the absorption is a problem. So if you want you can have an online consult to help diagnose what really is the situation with you.
