Sometimes this happen after surgery especially if spinal anaesthesia was given. And if Catheter for urine is put.

try putting knee brace on affected side for few days say upto two weeks only while walking. Start taking hot water bath 10 mins twice or thrice if pain is there. Do knee strengthening exercises and gradual progress to holding exercises. If x-ray report says reduced gap. Than need a 2 weeks proper exercise protocol to see some visual effects. Advice...
Avoid sitting Cross legged.
Avoid Squatting-
Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain.
Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

If your knee is paining since 2 weeks, then you have to rethink whether you had any injury in the previous years.
