Hi, it depends on what type of medication he is taking. Usually anti depressant and anti -psychotic do reduce the tablet concentration on blood so effect might reduce.

Detailed assessment is needed. Like the reason behind smoking, number of cigarettes and comorbid medical condition. Next you should be assessed for withdrawal from smoking and for reducing further craving. There are medications to reduce nicotine craving too.
