Benefits of slip disc yoga

Nearly 80 percent of the adult population around the world suffers from the problem of backache due to various reasons. In today's scenario, the problem of slip disc is increasingly becoming very common. This condition can occur either due to an injury from an accident or when the spine starts degenerating due to age-related wear and tear. Now the question arises how can yoga benefit a person suffering from the problem of slip disc? The answer to this question is when yoga is performed under the strict vigilance of a yoga expert then there are certain asanas which can provide huge relief from the severe pain. There are also studies which indicate a person suffering from the problem of slip disc can benefit immensely from simple movement of the yoga which stretches the bones. Practicing yoga can boost blood circulation in the spine.

The fresh and oxygenated blood would stimulate the functionality of the bones. The asanas in yoga can reduce all the stress from the damaged nerve roots enabling them to heal thereby providing relief in the pain. Given below are the asanas in yoga which when done under the guidance of a yoga expert can bring relief in slip disc.

The Crocodile Pose

Start the pose lying face down on the floor. Keep your feet stretched out with toes pointing outwards. Place your elbows on the floor and raise your head and shoulders. Rest your head on the palms of your hands. Breathe normally and hold the position for 2-3 minutes. This pose is beneficial for stretching out the back muscles and the spine and relaxing the shoulders and neck.

The Superior Pose

Start the pose lying on your stomach face down. Slowly lift your forehead off the floor. If needed, you can use a pillow or rolled up towel for support. Interlock your fingers and place them on top of your neck and let your elbows touch the floor. Hold the pose for 2-3 minutes.

The Cobra Pose

This pose strengthens the back muscles and relieves pain related to slipped disc. It also increases flexibility of the spinal muscles. Start by lying on your stomach. Bring your hands to the front with palms downward and slowly raise your head and chest, supporting yourself on your palms. Bend your elbows a little. Arch your neck backwards and breathe normally. Hold the pose for as long as comfortable.

The Locust Pose

Start the pose lying on your stomach with your forehead touching the floor. Keep your hands by the side of your body. Breathe in and slowly raise your head and chest off the ground and then raise your legs off the floor. Keep your hands straight along your body. Breathe regularly and hold the pose for 20-30 seconds.

The Reverse Corpse Pose

This pose is excellent for relaxing your muscles and keeping your breathing steady. Start by lying down on your stomach with your legs outstretched. Stretch your hands out in front of you so that they touch both sides of your head. Breath regularly.

Conclusion

In addition to yoga, consuming a healthy diet is necessary for reducing slip disc problem. The right amount of nutrients and vitamins should be taken to overcome disorders related to discs, muscles, and bones. Incorporating foods that are rich in calcium like yogurt and low-fat milk are very beneficial for slipped disc.

Food rich in magnesium like avocado also are essential as they help in stretching and relaxing the muscles. Incorporate Vitamin D3 in the form of egg yolk as it helps in better absorption of calcium. Additional food products rich in vitamin C like oranges, strawberries, and tomatoes can be very advantageous. Vitamin C helps in the formation of collagen. It also helps in healing the intervertebral discs. Incorporating food products rich in proteins helps in healing and repairing the soft tissues and bones.Besides this, food which have anti-inflammatory properties should be included in the diet.
