Carrot is a vegetable which falls under the category of one the most healthy vegetables. This is a known fact that humans have been practicing the cultivation and growth of carrots since 900 AD. When the cultivation of carrots started it was done in three to four varieties depending on the colour, which are said to be yellow, white and purple.

It is found and believed that cultivation and consumption of orange carrot has been going on since the 1500s. The cultivation of red carrots started in the other half of the 1500 century.

In the current condition, carrots are found all across the globe and come in various sizes and colours. The red and orange colored carrots are the most widely consumed carrot but the existence of these carrots were found to be much later than that of the yellow, white and purple one. Whatever the colour of the carrot is, it is always considered as a vegetable with so many health benefits and is very healthy.

Whatever may be the variety of carrot it is very rich in all kinds of vitamins and is an antioxidant rich vegetable. Carrots are considered to be low calorie or calories deficient vegetables. This vegetable is the simplest and easiest one to cook but if you want to have the maximum nutritional benefit from any kind of carrot, you should consume or eat it raw.

It is a very arguable fact that red carrots are inferior to that of orange carrots. Red carrots taste a lot sweeter than orange carrots. The availability of red carrots is said to be strictly in the winter period whereas orange carrots are available throughout the year.

  • Daily Vitamin K requirement by 9%.
  • Potassium and fiber requirements upto 8%, daily.

Munching only a half cup of carrot has only 41 calories. Besides being tasty it has a lot of health benefits.

Lycopene

Red coloured carrots are said to have lycopene and it has another form which is known as carotene. Lycopene defends or works against free radicals and it helps you to fight against cancer(mainly prostate), degeneration of the muscles and serum lipid oxidation, this is how it has a lot of effect on a person's health against life threatening disease. Lycopene is the reason because of which the carrot gets its red colour.

Vitamin A

This Vitamin A also goes by the name of beta carotene and is very essential for us if you want to have healthy eyes and healthy skin. Red carrots have Vitamin A present in it, in abundance.

Anthocyanin

Anthocyanin has a property which protects our heart's cell from getting damaged or breaking. Red carrot has anthocyanin present in it which helps our heart to stay fit and it diminishes the chances for us to get any kind of heart disease.

Lutein

It has been found that orange carrots have the presence of lutein in them. Lutein has a property which helps our body to stand against any kind of diseases related to aging and reduce its risk.

Vitamins

  • Orange carrot also has vitamin A in it and has a very positive affect and is beneficial for our skin and eyes. It has the same kind of effect as a red carrot.
  • Orange carrots also contain Vitamin K in it. Property of Vitamin K is that it helps in clotting of blood. Consumption of orange carrot will surely help a person to avoid excess blood loss whenever he faces any injury.
