Hello, thanks for the query.
I have seen the details given. The main reason for weight gain appears to be uncontrolled hypothyroidism. Ideally in a well controlled patient t3 & t4 are in normal range plus tsh is around 3 to 4 mu/l. It is clear that you have not checked tsh on regular basis, hence there is a tremendous increase. First thing is to bring tsh with in normal range by increasing the dosage of levothyroxine. Secondly there is a need to look at your dietary intake, extent of daily e...more

No. U can do the following-- stop smoking (if you smoke). Smoking lowers your hdl, (“good”) cholesterol level. Change the way you eat. Low-fat, low-cholesterol eating benefits all your lipid levels.
Lose weight if necessary.
Maintain healthy lifestyle start exercising.
Nuts, such as almonds, pistachios, and walnuts, contain high amounts of unsaturated fat or “good” fats, which increase high-density lipoprotein (hdl) and lower low-density lipoprotein (ldl).

Eat something like a banana (if you are not diabetic) or any seasonal fruit or soaked almonds and a glass of water first thing in the morning (within 10 mins of waking up). Hello, Thanks for the query.
I have seen the details mentioned. It is clear that the dosage of Levothyroxine advised was less than optimum. That is the reason for TSH going up. Ideally when adequate dosage is taken TSH is maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L and T4 level is with in the specified normal range. (you have not mentioned T3 & T4 levels). So there is a need to increase the dosage of Levothyroxine. Thanks.

Hello, thanks for the query.
I have seen the details given. Your current tsh level (1.43 mu/l) is well with in the normal range. It is usually recommended that tsh should be around 3 to 4 mu? Or with in the normal range mentioned in each labs report, which is around 0.5 to 5 mu/l with minor variation in upper limit. Another important aspect is one should be symptom free. So your current dosage is fine. However, please check the thyroid levels once in 6 months to see if those are in range. If...more

Hello, thanks for the query.
Madam I have seen the query. Soy products contalin flavins which are supposed to be having antithyroid effect, so it is better to avoid them. As regards other vegetables like spinach, cabbage, cauliflower, radish etc, it is better to use those sparingly as these also have antithyroid effect. But usage in small quantities does not affect. There is no question about absorption, because you are advised to take thyroxine tablet early morning on empty stomach and then...more

You should continue the same dose if you have no symptoms as such. Moreover, after starting Eltroxin, TSH levels take about 6-8 weeks to stabilize. So just wait and get tested again after a month to aptly decide the dose.

Dear Mr. arshad,
please get an ecg done at the earliest. You should not have palpitations after walking for a few minutes. As for blood test reports, they are not an urgency as of now. If the ecg is normal you can contact again for medicine and lifestyle advise. However, if ecg is not normal, you must consult a cardiologist
take care.
