Sertraline is an ssri, it should be safe if your liver and kidney are healthy. Sertraline usual dose is around 50 mg. Usually antidepressants are taken long term as opposed to benzodiazepines that are short term. You should be fine, given you exercise daily, stay relaxed. There is no such thing as safest antidepressant, all antidepressants have their own side effects profile.
But you may try mirtazapine as it has least side effects.

It is important to note that there is no single cause of mental illness, and neurotransmitter imbalances may be just one of several factors that contribute to their development.

Cortisol is rare reason for anxiety and depression. Common neurotransmitter implicated is serotonin and it is not simple to understand the interplay between hormones and neurotransmitters ( but basic explanation can be given to a lay person). It needs understanding of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neurochemistry and psychiatry, apart from general medical knowledge how these produce the symptoms and treatment.

Good morning!
yes, you can stop serlift if your doctor has advised you to do so since it is a very small dose you will not have any side effects of withdrawal. I hope this helps. If you continue to have concerns or questions you can book a second consultation opinion appointment online and the Lybrate staff will help you with the same.
Take care and have a lovely day!

Hello-
you probably won’t hear this from your teacher or doctor, but your brain actually stops growing at age 30--followed by gradual shrinkage! research has found that a certain amount of physical degradation of the brain’s structure occurs naturally with age. This regional brain deterioration starts near the age of 30 and accelerates by age 50. Such deterioration can even start earlier for stressed-out adolescents who suffer from sexual exhaustion.
