As arthritis is very common that you get generally bilaterally. Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone.
You can take Ultrasonic therapy in one of the nearby physiotherapy clinics which would help to heal the damaged cartilages along with shortwave diathermy which would help to improve the blood circulation. Simple Knee Exerciesmore

However you can also go with certain hip and knee strengthening exercises to prevent further problems. You can contact a physiotherapist for exercises.

Hi. If you have popping sound that does pain or swelling, it can be a sign of meniscus tears.(it is rubber like c shape disc that cushions your knee and acts as a shock absorber) or may be cartilage injury. As you said doctor gave you vit. D tablets, take for more 1-2 months. It will give you result.

Dear lybrateuser,
- As there is injury to the ligaments there is malfunctioning of the knee
- it is always better to get checked by an orthopedician & take his advise
- with age the functioning will go on deteriorating if you do not get it corrected( by surgery) at this stage
- till then apply a knee cap & take a pain relief tablet after meals if pain is more.
