My mother aged 65 years has severe arthritis of both knees, should she get both knees replaced in one sitting?

You should do both knees in one sitting if the severity is same in both the knees and the patient is unable to differentiate the painful knee. In case the patient says one knee is more painful than address one knee at a lime. Your own knee is always the best till it lasts.

What are the advantages of doing both the knees in one sitting?

Exposure to the risk of...more

Little bit of pain on and off can come and go. The main stay of treatment remains exercises. Please see I am saying exercises and not physiotherapy to emphasise on the fact that its you who have to do it as much as you can and do not depend on the physiotherapist. The knee extension (straightening) should be ...more

The human body is able to move fluidly because there are various joints, muscles, tendons and cartilages that work together to make this happen. Movements of the hands, legs, back, hips, knees and wrists are controlled this way. For various reasons, however, these tissues grow stiff, thereby, reducing free movement. Dear Radha,
Namaskar,
Adalimubab is a biologic drug, very effective in RA.......Ofcourse all the modern medicines do have some untoward and side effects.......but the treating Doctor has to titrate the dosage and choose the lesser evil out of Pendora of various drugs.... I am sure he will closely monitor the situation...There is no alternative treatment of this disease as for as scientific evidence is concerned.... Have faith and patience.... Take care.

Hello. I would not suggest steroids for longer duration for knee pain. They would decrease the pain but on longer duration will lead to myriad of problems including osteoporosis and other systemic multi organ problems. We need to look at the x rays and select a long term treatment which can decrease her pain but without side effects.
