You may sleep for 6,8 hours comfortably. Basically, it reduces stress. You feel very light, and relaxed and hence get a sound sleep. But, it's not a solution . There are more alternatives for better sleep. You can go through my answers for better sleep.

Its not advisable to provide medicine online.
Lifestyle changes often help improve sleep for people with short-term insomnia. These include avoiding caffeine and other stimulants, going to bed and waking up around the same time every day, and avoiding heavy meals, exercise and bright lights before bedtime, according to the NIH.

Yes definitely if will not be effective as you are just suppressing your neural activity with meds in the sense paralyzing the effect with meds for few hours - as you term it as sleep. You need a proper treatment to restore your sleep pattern provided your body age permits the same.
