Home Remedies For Enlarged Prostate: Procedure, Recovery, Risk & Complication

What is the remedy about?

Enlarged prostate in medical terms is known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is a disorder that generally affects older men and is not the same as prostate cancer. The prostate is a small, muscular gland in the male reproductive system and with ageing, the cells around the gland begin to multiply causing the prostate to be enlarged. They can be accompanied by severe pain in some cases and can generally lead to a change in the life style activities. You can undergo the below home remedies for enlarged prostrate.

  1. 1. Sitz Bath
A sitz bath is the best known effective remedy for the symptoms of enlarged prostate. The hot bath will also reduce swelling and promotes healing. To make the bath fill the bath tub with warm water and add half a cup of Epsom salt to it. Alternatively fill in another bath tub with cold water and add a few drops of lavender essential oil. First sit in the warm bath tub for a few minutes and sit in the cold bath tub for a minute before proceeding to give yourself a regular bath. Do this procedure twice a week for best results.
  2. 2. Stinging Nettle
Stinging nettle leaves can help in reducing the symptoms of BPH. They majorly help in shrinking the prostate tissue and also eliminate inflammatory wastes through urination. To make the broth add a teaspoon of dried nettle leaves to a cup of hot water. Boil for 10 minutes and strain it. Drink this broth twice a day for best results.
  3. 3. Corn Silk
Corn silk can also be used to curb the symptoms of prostate enlargement. They help in improved urine flow and can lessen the enlargement. To make this, take around 5 to 6 ears of fresh corn in 4 cups of water. First bring it to a boil and then simmer for another 10 minutes. Strain the broth and drink it up. Use this twice a day at least for better results.

Are there any side effects?

Commonly, these remedies cause no side effects if necessary precautions are followed. However, ensure that you seek the help of a doctor before undergoing them. To avoid complications and allergies, buy products from a medical store or trusted sources. When using Stinging nettle leaves, make sure that the leaves are free of impurities and are properly washed. When using the sitz bath method, use treated water and make sure it is devoid of impurities. The corn silk preparation must also be carried out carefully. If you don't witness any alleviation of the problem, contact a doctor.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

Work that puts a lot of stress on your back is not recommended after following such home remedies. Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated at all times. Use a natural laxative like a banana or papaya, so that they can curb any constipation you might experience. Also, try to sit as comfortably as possible when you take rest. Avoid the same posture for long duration.

How long does it take to recover?

Enlarged Prostate usually takes long to recover as the glands and swellings diminish very gradually. In some cases the prostate may subsidize but may not recover completely. Do consult with your physician if you feel that you are unable to detect any visible reduction in the symptoms.

Are the results of the remedy permanent?

Permanent results cannot be guaranteed in this situation. Enlarged Prostate is known to occur again even in those who had completely recovered in the past. So the results of these remedies might vary from person to person. Do consult with your doctor in case you have any queries about the lifestyle you have to follow to avoid the recurrence of enlarged prostate.

Is there any training or experts required?

No formal training is required to administer these home remedies. But make sure you follow the process carefully and exactly. Medical help is recommended in case the problem persists or worsens even after the remedies.

Effectiveness: Medium Side Effects: Low Time for Recovery: High Price Range : Approx INR 100 - 400 Training Requirement: No

Anxiety Disorder - Signs That You Are Suffering From It!
All individuals get nervous or anxious at some point of time or the other due to a plethora of reasons. But for some individuals, anxiety becomes so frequent and forceful, that it overpower their lives. Most of the normal anxiety are short lived and the feelings may last for few hours. However, an anxiety problem becomes an anxiety disorder when anxious feelings are very intense and last for weeks or months. Anxiety disorder exists in different forms like panic attacks, social anxiety and phobia. The most common form of anxiety is Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) during which an individual worries too much about everyday things and situations, both large and small. The person in this condition has persistent anxious thoughts on most days of the week, for six months. Moreover, the anxiety is so overpowering that it interferes with daily life and is coupled by noticeable symptoms like fatigue. The anxiety level goes to such an extent that causes a lot of dysfunction and suffering. If a person suffers from sleep problems and finds himself regularly awake and agitated or worried, then it is a tell-tale sign of generalized anxiety disorder. This is followed by a situation when one wakes up overstimulated with mind racing and one is unable to calm down. When the anxiety is tied to a specific situation and the fear is overwhelming and out of proportion to the actual risks then the condition is phobia. This can be due to anything ranging from crowd, animals to flying in an aeroplane or using an escalator. Muscle tension like clenching of jaw or fists or flexing of muscles though out the body always accompanies anxiety disorders. Regular exercise can help keep muscle tension under control, but the tension may get triggered up if an injury or other unforeseen event disrupts a person's workout habits. Panic disorder is repeated, unexpected panic attacks where one encounters panic in a situation where most people wouldn t be afraid. Anxiety also leads to chronic digestive problems like cramping and bloating of stomach. Social phobia or social anxiety disorder occurs when one develops an intense fear of being judged or embarrassed in public. People with social anxiety disorder have a tendency to worry for weeks leading to an event or situation. When and if they manage it, they tend to be deeply uncomfortable and are always judgemental about it. In case of social anxiety disorder, the anxiety is triggered by everyday situations like one-on-one conversation at a get-together, or eating and drinking in front of small group. The person feels that everybody is watching him and experiences profuse sweating, trembling, nausea and person becomes tongue-tied. These disruptions make it hard for the person to meet new people and maintain relationships. Panic disorder causes terrifying panic attacks when the person experiences a sudden gripping feeling of fear and helplessness which lasts for several minutes. It is generally accompanied with scary symptoms like breathing problems, a pounding heart, numb hands and sweating. Excessive fear of being separated from home or a loved one is separation anxiety disorder. Post -traumatic stress disorder is an anxiety disorder in which the patient relives a disturbing or traumatic event like a violent encounter, the sudden death of a loved one. An anxiety disorder affects the thinking, feelings as well as behaviour of a normal person. It s important to seek professional help if one see any of the warning signs of anxiety disorders in an individual.

Things You May Not Have Known About Semen
1. Sperm and semen are not the same thing. Spermatazoa, or sperm, is the name given to the reproductive cell that looks like a tadpole. Seminal fluid is the stuff that the tadpole swims in. Together they form semen an armored tank carrying a fertilization superhero. Or, as morgentaler calls them" heat-seeking missiles" 2. Seminal fluid is the sperm's sacred protector. Seminal fluid helps sperm" do their biologic mission" as morgentaler calls it, by helping the sperm get into the female body. Seminal fluid is alkaline, so it reduces the acidity sperm experiences in the female reproductive system. And, perhaps most important, seminal fluid gives the sperm the energy (in the form of fructose) they need for their arduous swim. 3. Semen is formed in three different parts of the body, not just the testes. According to morgentaler, semen comes from three main structures in the male reproductive anatomy. The first is the prostate, which forms a milky substance full of enzymes, proteins, and minerals. The second are the seminal vesicles, which produce the fructose as well as two-thirds of the fluid. The third are the testicles, which produce the sperm and some other fluid as well. 4. Sperm are the only human cells produced in one individual, but designed for survival in another. " sperm are amazing" morgentaler says, because of this fact. Think about it! our bodies are designed to attack anything that is not from our own body. Sperm didn't get that memo, though. Not unlike the white-haired traveler anthony bourdain, sperm, too, venture on to parts unknown. 5. Dudes produce a shit ton of sperm. According to morgentaler, a human male produces around 150 million sperm a day. That means you are producing a few thousand sperm every couple of seconds. 6. Most of a man's sperm are pretty useless. According to morgentaler" guys are into quantity and not so much quality" only a bit more than half the semen in an average ejaculation can swim, he says, and up to 70 90% are not ideally shaped for swimming. We are talking two heads, two tails, big heads, small heads, big tails, small tails, no tails it's a hot (literally) mess (sometimes literally).

PCOS And Hair Loss Treatment
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS is very common amongst women of reproductive age. This condition affects the ovaries and is one of the leading causes of infertility. Increased hair fall is one of the other effects of this disease. According to Ayurveda, PCOS brings the Kapha dosha that normally can be found in the upper half of the body downwards along with the Pitta dosha. This affects the Prana-Vyana-Apana axis. One of the impacts of this misbalance is a loss of nutrition to tissues including the hair follicles. Without proper nutrition, the hair follicles begin to die and fall off. Thus, addressing the Prana-Vyana-Apana axis is one way to treat hair fall caused by PCOS. Some forms of Ayurvedic treatment that can be used for this include: Sarvangadhara: This involves pouring medicated oils or milk or decoction over the body as per the condition of patient. Shirodhara: In this form of treatment, milkor medicated oils etc. are poured in a continuous stream over the head. Udwarthana: Dry Powder massage for removal of Kapha or ama dosha. Abhyanga: A massage with medicated Oil or Ghrutam. Swedana: Sweat inducing treatments for elimination of toxins. Other forms of Ayurvedic Medicaments & Panchkarma treatment that may be used to treat PCOS and hair fall associated with it are: Panchakarma: It means 5 therapies. These 5 therapies (i.e Vaman, Virechan, Basti, Nasyam, Raktamokshan) themselves vary from case to case. This helps deal with a number of issues caused by PCOS. For example, it helps regulate body weight, hormonal secretions, removes toxins, decreases resistance to insulin and enhances metabolism. The effect of this can also be seen on hair growth as hair fall is lessened and hair regrowth is enhanced. Ayurvedic Medicaments or Herbal Remedies: A number of herbs also have a beneficial effect on hair fall caused by PCOS. They stimulate ovulation and regulate menstruation to balance hormone levels, destroy cysts in the ovaries, regulate blood flow during menstruation and aid in natural conception. Some of these herbs include Ashokarishta, Shatavari, Rajapravartini vati, Kumaryasava, Dashamoola kashayam etc which has to be taken as per the condition of body under the guidance of expert Ayurvedic onsultants. Yoga: Specific Yoga asanas are beneficial for hair loss along with treating PCOS. It helps release stress and eases the symptoms associated with PCOS including hair fall.
