Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (HT), is an autoimmune disorder, which causes hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism does lead to dyslipidemia. Therefore, correction hypothyroidism is the main treatment. That does correct the high cholesterol levels.

Research is going on and no conclusive result is obtained so far One specific area of interest is selenium supplementation, which has been shown to increase the conversion of T4 to T3 while simultaneously reducing thyroid antibody levels responsible for the autoimmune attack. While initial work appears promising, the research is far from conclusive, and this approach needs considerably more study, according to write-ups of different studies in the European Journal of Endocrinology, the Journal ...more

Dear lybrate user, you seem to be having multiple problems, let me try to solve one by one. There could be many reasons for bladder prolapse, but most likely uterine fibroids would cause uterine prolapse. You can get a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound done to confirm. Uncontrolled diabetes may require insulin, you should check it regularly and may continue with oral hypoglycemics if controlled with that. You must use sunscreen cream to protect your self from sun. Some breast cancer may be inhe...more

Mr. Lybrate-user, I will be glad to answer your query, but I am unable to understand what exactly is your doubt. Hypothyroidsm can develop due to many reasons, like deficiency of iodine leading to goitre, radiation exposure to thyroid gland, certain drugs might have affected the gland or there may be hashimoto's thyroiditis (ht). In usa this is the main cause of developing hypothyroidism more so in women. This is autoimmune disease, where antibodies are produced against thyroid peroxidase enzyme...more

This condition usually occurs with those having curly hairs. There are a few things you may do to avoid getting skin bumps and rash:

Shave with the grain of the beard and do not stretch the skin. Use only one stroke over each area of the beard.

Use of an electric shaver may also help the condition because it does not cut as close as blades do. Use the electric razor on high setting to avoid close shaving and prepare beard with electric razor pre-shave. Do not stretch the skin ...more

Hello Polycythemia vera, is a slow-growing blood cancer in which your bone marrow makes too many red blood cells. These excess cells thicken your blood, slowing its flow. Often the condition is found during a blood test done for another reason.
Without treatment, polycythemia vera can be life-threatening. But proper medical care can help ease signs, symptoms and complications of this disease. If not treated it can cause complications, such as blood clots, which can lead to a heart attack or ...more

Hi. I am 24 year old female. I am suffering from scalp folliculitis since past two years. I get white painful pustules on my head. Usually they are 5-7 in number but I have noticed once in 15 days I get a really bad break out where they increase to 20-25. They are all over my head. Frontal hair line. In between and even at the back of my head. They start with a reddish eruption and then convert into white pustules. I have sought different treatments. Initially I was on amoxicillin 500 mg twice a day. Then I was on linox 600 mg twice a day for 7 days along with topical clindamycin solution. This would clear up the pustules for 15 days but then they would return back worse than before. Skin prick test was also done and I avoided things which came positive on it like coconut, beans etc. I have tried homeopathy as well. I was given doses of hepar sulphur. Adel 73 and mezereum and a combination of others too but nothing really helped. Homeopathic medications would not dry it out. Have been given neem tablets too and neem oil which I took for 8 months along with turmeric tablets but that didn’t help too. I’m a student and my condition effects my studies a lot. Some days it gets difficult to even comb my hair hence I cannot go to college which effects my attendance. Kindly suggest me a way out of this terrible disease and I am losing hope.
