Hair Patch: Treatment, Procedure, Cost and Side Effects

What is Hair patch treatment? How is the treatment done? Are there any side effects? How long does it take to recover? What is the price of the treatment in India? Are the results of the treatment permanent?

What is Hair patch treatment?

This procedure is also called artificial hair restoration. Hair patch treatment is quite simple. Individuals who suffer from Alopecia Areata tend to opt for this type of hair restoration procedure. Hair patch treatment is non-surgical, where a patch of hair or a wig/extension is placed in the area where baldness has occurred. Doctors stick the patch of hair with the help of cosmetic glue or even clips. The glue and clips are quite safe and do not lead to allergic reactions on the scalp.

This is quite an effective method of hair restoration, especially for those who do not want to opt for a surgical procedure, or do not have the funds for a hair transplant surgery. The patch of hair is particularly designed to perfectly fit the patient. Thus, it looks absolutely natural and the patient ends up looking much better than they did before. The hair patches are designed in such a way that they complement the hair texture, color and hair density of the patient. As compared to a traditional wig, a hair patch is smaller in size and designed to sit on a bald patch on the head.

This type of cosmetic treatment for hair is extremely safe and does not take much time.

How is the treatment done?

Hair patch treatment also known as artificial hair restoration is one of the most convenient hair restoration options, especially if a person has partial hair loss. The treatment or procedure of hair restoration is quite simple. One of its biggest advantages is that it is a non-surgical procedure, which does not involve the use of any needles.

The treatment essentially involves the effective placement of a carefully designed hair patch, which is then placed on the patient’s head in areas where there is maximum baldness.

The prosthetic hair patch is custom made, to resemble the patient’s hair and sit perfectly on his head. Hair patches look much more natural than wigs. Moreover, wigs are generally a solution to complete hair loss.

The treatment is very effective and the hair installation is absolutely painless. In most cases no repeat visits are necessary. The treatment is generally completed in one sitting only. Patients who have opted for this type of hair restoration can comb as well as style their hair anyway they want. They can also resume normal everyday activities like bathing, swimming etc.

After the procedure you hair will look absolutely natural. Very often, you may end up looking much better than you did when you were young.

Who is eligible for the treatment?

Both men and women of any age can opt for hair patch treatment. As this is a non-surgical procedure the general health of the individual is not taken into consideration.

Who is not eligible for the treatment?

There is no such non- eligibility criteria that is set for hair restoration.

Are there any side effects?

There are no particular side effects of the procedure. It definitely does not lead to allergies or reactions in most cases, as cosmetic glue is used to secure the wig and the wig is custom made for the patient.

What are the post-treatment guidelines?

Once the procedure is done, you can resume your normal day to day activities. The maintenance of the prosthetic hair is not complicated. You can maintain it just the way you maintain your normal hair.

How long does it take to recover?

While the hair prosthetic may take about a week or so to be made, the actual procedure itself takes about a few hours. The hair is secure in just about a sitting. There is no recovery involved.

What is the price of the treatment in India?

In India this form of treatment can range anywhere between Rs6, 000 to Rs.25, 000 and even more, depending on the city and the procedure itself.

Are the results of the treatment permanent?

As the hair is stuck or fused on the scalp, it does not grow and may get damaged with time. Thus, you may need to get a re-fix in a year or two.
