Thank you for the query.
It would have been helpful if you would have mentioned your Fasting blood sugar, 2 hrs post prandial sugar and HbA1c level. 1. If your HbA1c level is less than 7.5%, it would imply a fair control on blood sugar. Dietary regimen (avoidance of refined carbohydrate-pasta, white bread, noodles, burgers etc and carbonated beverages) and exercise (30 min per day for 5 days a week) may be helpful. Sometimes, a low dose of the medicine metformin may be added, which may be be...more

If you think smart then you can eat the simple yet routine staple food that you had been eating traditionally. Eat vegetables and fruits which are available according to the season and are cheaper. Do search the internet to know about nutrition value of various types of foods. At the same time you should focus on exercising everyday which does not cost any thing. You can also do Yoga and pranayam which is very beneficial if done sincerely. Please note that exercise is an essential part of Diabet...more

Hello, please continue with insulin as doctor prescribed. If there is a possibility, doctor should have suggested the medicine instead. Its good to control your diabetes. But along with medication, you need to concentrate on food also. Make sure you food must have high protein, fiber and omega-3 nutrition. Yes, if direct sugar, rice, potatoes and other carbohydrate ingradients are well controlled, milk without sugar can be taken. If triglyceride levels are normal then milk can be consumed but if TG level is high, then remove cream from milk and then use it.

Mr. Lybrate-user, chapatis are like roti and rice, as all these foods contain starch. Starch is converted to glucose in the intestine. Hence, eating more chapatis is definitely not beneficial or advisable. Wheat flour from which chapatis are made is containing mainly starch. 100 g of whole wheat flour gives 407 calories, about 87 g of carbohydrate, 16 g of proteins and 2 g of fats. Hence, taking more wheat flour as chapatis is definitely ideal for controlling diabetes. It can be a part of the to...more

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. First and foremost is to achieve a strict blood glucose control with fasting close to 100 mg, PP 170 to 180 mg & HbA1c% close to7%. Things to avoid I am sure you are aware, like, sweets, deep fried foods, junk food, pastries, bakery items & foods made from maida. Plus avoid colas, alcohol & smokibg. Use whole grain flour for roti & chapatis. Increase the intake of green leafy vegetables, salds & some fruits. Noodles if made from whole grain flour then it i...more
