  • Taiwan

  • The Indian subcontinent.

What are the symptoms of Dengue ?

Dengue fever occurs due to the bite of the Aedes mosquito which is infected with a dengue virus. The mosquito gets infected when it bites an infected person. It cannot be directly spread by direct blood contact. The symptoms of Dengue fever can be misdiagnosed as a viral infection or flu. If Dengue fever goes undiagnosed for a long time, it can be extremely fatal and can even cause death. Dengue fever can escalate to dengue hemorrhagic fever which is characterized by enlargement of the liver, bleeding from the gums & nose, damage to the blood vessels and lymph nodes, high fever and failure of the circulatory system. This is also known as dengue shock syndrome (DSS). People who have an extremely weak immune system are at a higher risk of developing dengue shock syndrome (DSS).

  • Use air conditioning whenever you are indoors.
  • Shut all the windows and doors at your home especially during the evening.

  • Get rid of the places and surroundings where mosquitoes can breed. Such places include flower pots, cans and old tires. Also change the water in your pet’s water dish and bird baths regularly.
