Dear sir
you must go to a psychologist who specailizes in autism management. With the right strategies, your son should be able to have a normal life.
Take care.

My son is 4 years & 4 months old. He was diagnosed with mild autism when he was 4 years old. He is not much verbal, he points out to give if he wants anything. He can sing rhymes, tell a to z & numbers from 1 to 20. He speaks few words but cannot say if he is hungry & he is not potty trained as well. He cannot follow or understand any instruction given. He is very stubborn & keeps on crying till his demands are fulfilled. There is no regular sleep pattern, stays awake at night almost & sleeps at daytime. We are not giving any occupational therapy as of now. We started giving him ayurvedic medicine since 3 months. There is no much difference seen in his behaviour. Can you tell how long it will take for medicine to work. Is there any medicine to add on. Kindly suggest. Medicine given are as below 1. kerala ayurveda saraswathi granules twice daily 2.charak cognium syrup twice daily 3. Kerala ayurveda balakalpam once daily.

Dear Lybrate user
please visit a child development center nearby your place, as it is recommended to start with occupational and speech therapy with the child. Autism spectrum disorder (asd) is a neurodevelopmental disorder which impacts the child speech, language and communication areas. By asd you mean atrial septal defect right? All asd don't require surgery. 25% of living adult have asds. The matter is does he have any symptoms of cynosis (bluing of extremities) or any other allied symptoms? Surgery and modern medicines are the only cure of this. I would not recommend you going the ayurveda route since the results are very wage.

I feel ---you have to first have an ent check up for hearing function. Then have a check up with all clinical investigations-- by a psychiatrist/psychologist team--then only come to a diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

The syrups being given are to reduce the behaviour problems and won't directly improve the speech. Consult a child psychiatrist for proper doing of the same. Only intensive ot and speech therapy would improve the outcome in the parameters you mentioned, medications will help him being receptive to the same. Good luck.
