Ankle injuries as general are more prone to infections if not taken good care of. The reasons for this being the proximity of the ankle to the floor, the wound that are nearby and the general contamination of the wound. Altough your major wounds have healed there may be a collection of pus which is generally the micro organisms that have entered the body through the wound. I would advice to get a pus culture to know which type of organism has infected the would, followed by a surgical debridement (if required) and antibiotics for the stipulated period of time. Take care.
