Hi. I am 27 weeks pregnant. Having gestational diabetics. Not taking pills or insulin. Manage to keep sugar level between 120 and 140 one hour after breakfast. After lunch and dinner below 130. Can I have mothers horlicks. Is it safe. Will baby be over weight. Till last checkup, everything is fine.

Dear lybrate-user the target range for gestational diabetes is different from normal diabetes. Target levels should be fasting below 90 2 hrs after 75g of oral glucose should be less than 140. You seem to be acheiving the targets well. Try having normal balanced diet. It is safe but monitor your sugar levels closely. No problem with overweight bsbydue to horlicks, but if your diabetes is not controlled then definitely there is risk of overweight baby.

Hello, Go for protein powder without added sugar. Baby weight has to be monitored through serial scans because in diabetes, Macrosomia is quite common. Monitor your blood sugar levels and go for regular antenatal care.
