It can be corrected only by scaling. Scaling don't weakens the gum on the other hand scaling make gums properly adhere to the roots. When there is more calculus and plaque and we remove it, then there will be a gap created by removal of that debris and that will be normal within a week. So go for scaling with no doubt.Â

Dear Lybrate user, hardened plaque/calculus can only be effectively removed by professional cleaning/scaling. Plaque serves as the hub for millions of bacteria. I would advise you to not believe any myths regarding scaling. Regular scaling (once or twice a year) should be done gently and helps in improving the health of gums by removing plaque deposits that do not come off by brushing. These deposits if allowed to remain for a long time can lead to severe gum disease. Consult your dentist and book your appointment.Â

No no lybrate-user that's a myth, scaling only removes the plaque and calculus, never weakens the gums. There is only slight hot n cold sensitivity to teeth for a few days as the calculus is removed the surface of tooth is exposed. Cost in govt hospital is around 400-500 where as in clinic it would cost you around 800-1000 but the sterilisation is perfect in Pvt clinics.Â
