Dear Lybrate User, Protein is one of the most vital nutritional substances which are required for human body. Almost every high protein diet contains purine. This purine produces uric acid on oxidation. Excess uric acid is accumulated at the joints of human beings as urate salts. This accumulation of urate salts lead to pain & swelling of those affected joints & this condition is clinically known as gout. You should avoid high protein rich diet like mutton, chicken, beef, eggs, sea fish, spinach, garden pea, tomato, lentils etc. Also you need to take Homoeopathic Mother Tincture URTICA URENS Q, 30 drops, thrice daily, after meals, in a cup of water. This medicine will help to dissolve the accumulated excess urate salts from the joints.

Thank you for the query. Uric acid can be increased in the blood due to two main factors - increased production and decreased excretion from the body. The normal uric acid for males is usually 3.5-7 mg% (though this value may vary amongst laboratories). Your uric acid is in the borderline level. There is nothing much to worry about right now. I would suggest that you restrict your protein intake specially red meat (as uric acid is produced by protein metabolism) and legumes (dried beans, peas). Alcohol intake had to be reduced (as this interferes with uric acid excretion). The main problem with increased uric acid level is deposition of crystal form in joints which causes a condition called gout. If uric acid is very high or a patient is symptomatic with joint pain medications like allopurinol or febuxostat can be given. Certain medications like frusemide (a diuretic) or low dose aspirin can cause raised uric acid levels. There are some other causes, but it may not be important for you at this stage. Regards
