I had gone through pap smear test. Though the report came negative for intraepithelial lesion or malignancy. But doctor gave a clinical note of cervical erosion present on both lips, bleed in touch. I showed the report to my family gynaecologist. She advised to go for HPV DNA and coloscopy. I am very worried. Why these tests have been recommended to me. Is it very serious.

Hello, pap smear is a screening test for cervical infections and cancers. It detects any infections or any abnormal changes in the cervix. In your case because you had an erosion your doc wanted to make sure thr is no other serious problem. In india ppl get scared abt it coz it is not offered to everyone and they think itz veru serious whereas in countries abroad itz offered from the age of 25 every 3-5 yrly. Cervvical cancer can be treated completely if caught early and this test aims to detect any abnormalities of the cervix. As these can occur upto ten years in advance of actually getting the cancer. So you do not need to freak out. Your doctors are just being careful. Hope this was helpful.
