T2 is occuring either due to lack of insulin or increase resistance to its action. It is a familial disease, spreads in families. Other contributing factors are over weight or obesity, inactivity, junk foods, aerated sweetened drinks. Diet for a person with diabetes has to be very specifically designed. However, certain precautions to be taken with regard to diet are: avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries and other bakery items, sweetened aerated drinks and high fat milk products. Consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads, permitted fruits about a 100 g a day. Also take high fiber containing foods like whole grain products.
