Mr. Lybrate-user, a diabetic person has to take a balanced but restricted diet, which should include carbohydrates (50 to 55 %), fats (25 to 30 %) & proteins (15%. Most important is total caloric intake, it has to be based of ideal body weight (54 kgs), sugar levels and extent of daily exercise. You should avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, sweetened aerated drinks, fructose corn syrup containing products and highly processed foods. Also avoid red meat, egg yolk, saturated fats. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads, permitted fruits (100 g a day). Use whole grain products and whole grain flour for chapati and roti. Do not use maida. Avoid alcohil and smoking. Non veg items could be once or twice a week like lean meat, chicken and fishes.
