In t1 diabetes there is no insulin production by beta cells of pancreas, usually due to autoimmune problem. There are anti bodies against beta cells. T2 dm is a familial disease. If both parents have diabetes then 75% of off-springs are likely to it. It is also a preventable disease. Persons with pre diabetic stage can prevent or delay developing of diabetes by adapting a healthier life style. 1) maintain normal weight, avoid central obesity (fat around abdomen), 2) adapt an active life style, exercise daily for at least 1 hour, brisk walk is ideal, 3) take a proper balanced diet, avoiding deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, sweetened aerated drinks, high fat milk products and highly processed foods. 4) refrain from alcohol and smoking 5) maintain a bmi <23 kg /m2.8) consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads and fruits.
