My baby is three months old. Recently she has got shaved and I found her head full of dandruff. Is it possible for such small baby to have dandruff. And does she needs to be treated?

Hi, cradle cap, also known as infantile or neonatal seborrhoeic dermatitis, crusta lactea, milk crust, honeycomb disease, is a yellowish, patchy, greasy, scaly and crusty skin rash that occurs on the scalp of recently born babies. It is usually not itchy and does not bother the baby. Cradle cap most commonly begins sometime in the first 3 months. Similar symptoms in older children are more likely to be dandruff than cradle cap. Management: to help with your baby's flaky scalp you can gently massage your baby's scalp with your fingers or a soft brush to loosen the scales. You may want to shampoo the baby's hair more frequently (no more than once a day), and after shampooing gently brushing the baby's scalp with a soft brush or a terrycloth towel. You can also use oil remedies by rubbing a small amount of pure, plant-derived oil (coconut oil, pure olive oil, almond oil) or homoeopathic oil on the baby's scalp and leaving it on for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, gently comb out the flakes with a fine tooth comb or brush. Be sure to wash out all of the oil to avoid making the cradle cap worse. Treatment: use homoeopathic schwabe's anti-dandruff oil and anti-dandruff shampoo which is very safe for infants/ babies.
