I did root canal on grinding teeth and 3rd step over, doctor said root canal procedure completed after putting artificial roots and put a temporary white paste and revisit after 1 week to take impression of teeth for crown. After chewing soft food on that side after 3 days, inside half of tooth chipped of, loosing half structure of tooth gone. Will e new crown can placed of that tooth fully need to be removed? Hello please send the picture of your tooth, post and pre root canal xrays then giving you a solution will be apt getting a crown is always good as it can bear the stress much better than before but deciding on getting a crown or not, it all depends on how much tooth structure is left. Also try to save your natural tooth as possible. May be tooth did not chip off, your white filling chipped off and you thought its the tooth. Visit the same dentist, ask for an xray, and see how much of the tooth is lost, even if its high then instead of crown you can get a composite core buildup, and you can always save the tooth. But for this, your intention should be to save the tooth, after getting core buildup, get a crown if the tooth structure is there, but if not then having composite core build-up or onlay, inlay in the same tooth can save your tooth rather than removing it. Also, remember removing is easy but building a new tooth is a difficult expensive affair.
