Swelling never occurs due to pain concept of swelling is if something is start accumulating inside body which don't find way to out side in dentistry whenever we found swelling its 99% abscess which means due to rotting tooth some bacteria find its way to the bone via tooth where they start forming puss this pus causes the swelling and pressure of puss is cause of pain in this situation I recommended rct which will give a way to puss to comes out and then your dentist clean it and fill it preventing any further infection taking medicine will not work specially the painkiller is just a waste hope you find my answer useful.

I would recommend you to consult a dentist. Tooth problems like decay, gum inflammation, tooth infection etc cannot be solved only with medicines. Tooth has to be cleaned and filled or atleast removed. Taking lot of medicines without prescription is bad for health.

Hi lybrate-user. Until the tooth involved is treated the pain will remain. We need to treat the cause of your pain. Taking painkillers is only a temporary solution which as you have rightly said provide 4-5 hours of relief I do not recommended prolonged use of pain killers as they may lead to gastric irritation which will only increase your problems. Get treated by a dentist at the earliest.
