Is there any scientific reason behind taking head bath or only bath at the first day of menstruation. Why my grandmother tell me to take head bath immediately when menstruation comes.

As per allopathic system of medicine, there is no link between head bath and menstruation. There could be some anecdotes about head bath in the older years like it may give some relaxation to body to ease out some mensuration pain. Moreover, there were no sanitary pads available so bathing was an way to clean yourself. If you still have some questions, feel free to contact me.

Dear Lybrate user, menstruation continues irrespective of bathing / taking a head bath. Many of the practices during menstruation have direct implications on reproductive health. For instance, not bathing during menstruation can lead to compromise in hygiene of the girl and thus lead to the reproductive tract infections. In fact, a nice warm bath can help relieve menstrual cramps and premenstrual tension in some girls. Also, during your menses, the body temperature is raised a bit and bathing helps maintain it. Please consider your grandmother's anecdote as a hygiene factor. However, 'immediately' taking shower irrespective of the time can be a little inconvenient. You may do so at the earliest time possible. If you have any further queries, you can connect with me over text/call.
