Hello lybrate-user. Sorry about your eye trouble. Thinning of the cornea is usually genetically determined. There are certain infections of the eyes that may cause thinning of the cornea as well. I guess you have never had any infection of the eye or any injury to the eyes. This means that your thin cornea is definitely genetically determined. Thinned corneas may be associated with raised eye pressure at times so it would be better to have your eye pressures assessed. Unfortunately, if the thickness of the cornea is not sufficient enough, a person cannot be eligible for lasik. It might be a better idea to consider other options such as using contact lens. If you do not wish to use contact lens, then surgical options might work for you (in case you have extreme high numbers) the surgical option includes clear lens exchange. This procedure involves replacing the clear lens in the eye with an artificial lens (just like in cataract surgery). You should seek the opinion of a cornea specialist. The reason being that thin corneas may also cause a condition known as keratoconus. This condition causes conical protrusion of the cornea leading to subsequent complications. Let me know if you require further assistance. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care.
