I have been taking duloxetine 40 mg for my depressive symptoms and anxiety plus 2.5 mg olanzapine. My doctor tried umpteen number of antidepressants and antipsychotic to which I did not respond well. My doctor wants me to put on monoamine oxidase inhibitors i.e make and he told me these are newer antidepressant agents. But I heard about some dietary restrictions that these agents have. Thus do all maois have diet constraints? Can we use olanzapine with these? Please provide your inputs. Thanks.

Hello When a person has resistant depression, the sequence to be tried at later stages would be a TCA class of antidepressant, with a low dose mood stabilizer like lithium and a low dose 2nd generation antipsychotic. Currently u are on a SNRI class of antidepressant + 2nd gen antipsychotic. I would suggest first to get tried with the above this, or if that doesnt work a combination of Venlafaxine + mirtazepine + a mood stabilizer. If all this doesnt help , then u can consider a MAO type of antidepressant like what you doctor is talking about. It has a lot of dietary and mainly medicine restrictions also.
