This question is regarding my wife who is 8 month pregnant. She feels hiccups of the fetus 2 to 3 times a day. She also consulted her doctor but she deny to believe in hiccups. Is this normal to feel hiccups of the fetus or we should consult another doctor for this?

This is a normal and actually reassuring sign of neuronal development. As the diaphragm becomes properly innervated by the vagus nerve, it will intermittently respond with sudden muscle spasms. Those are hiccups! When this is seen on ultrasound or felt by the mom, this is always noted as a good thing. It can last for seconds or even hours (rarely), so it?s good to know it is fine for the baby even if it can get uncomfortable for the mom!
