Hello I am 32 weeks pregnant and my ultrasound report is showing "mildly prominent cisterna magna with variant anatomy noted" I do not know what does this mean, I want to know if my baby is fine. Can you please interpret this to me in a simple language? Thank you.

Hi, cisterna magna is a space within which the fluid inside the brain (cerebrospinal fluid) flows. If an enlarged cisterna magna is associated with enlargement of other parts in the brain where this fluid is stored (ventricles) or other abnormalities, it may be a cause for concern. But if it is an isolated finding then usually there is no cause for concern. The baby can be followed up after birth with an ultrasound of the brain.
