I had my dental filling done 20 years back and the doctor then used silver amalgam. I was unknown of risks and now worried if I should replace the filling with composite ones. Which filling material is best with less risk and has less hazards to the body.

Silver amalgam is an alloy of mercury and it does not contain any free mercury. Hence there is no serious concern regarding safety of the material as such. Since the restoration is 20 years old, you may get it checked out by dentist to ensure that the restoration is alright and not chipped or cracked. If the restoration isn't bothering you aesthetically and it is structurally sound, I don't see why you should change it.
