My baby is suffering from thalassemia. Is leukocyte filter compulsory needed for blood transfusion?
Ask Free Question
we use three standard treatments for moderate and severe forms of thalassemia. These treatments include blood transfusions, iron chelation (ke-LAY-shun) therapy, and folic acid supplements. Other treatments have been developed or are being tested, but they're used much less often.

The blood should be leucodepleted and NAT tested. Leucodepletion can be done at bedside by leucocyte filters or can be done in the blood bank. The second one is always preferred. If the blood bank at your place do not have this facility then you bedside leucofilters.
