Have been spitting up phlegm with brown specks since I woke up in the morning. There is no cough. Have a slightly blocked nose. Throat was hurting last night but not anymore. Haven't eaten anything. Noticed the color when I spit up (white) toothpaste. The specks haven't stopped appearing, it's been 20-25 minutes. I smoke 1-2 cigarettes a day. Should I be concerned? I am also occasionally spitting up thick pale yellow phlegm.

You better relax. That can be mostly thick mucous. Steam inhalation along with saline nasal drops can correct your problem to a great extent. If it still continues after 3 days then we will have to start some drugs. Ha and please stop smoking. Smoking itself can make your nasal secretions thick.
