My query is not health related but rather in relation to hospitalization expenses and medical insurance. I like to know what expenses are covered under health insurance. I had recently undergone prostate surgery T.U.R.P and I am covered under UTI's Senior citizen unit plan for reimbursement of hospitalization expenses. Under this plan the beneficiary has to initially meet the expenses and later claim reimbursement from Unit Trust of India against hospital bills and certification by the hospital. I had claimed the same as per the procedure. To my utter surprise I found that UTI has disallowed expenses on heads such as 1) surgical gloves, 2) cost of Camera for surgery 3) ECG Electrodes 4) Hand rub 5) Micropore 6) Table sheets etc. My query is are the people scrutinising the claims learned members of medical fraternity? Or lay men operating from road side fraud units. They do not seem to be in modern day medicine practice as they are an aware that for any pin hole surgery a camera is a must. For precaution against infection hand gloves and table sheets are essential and so also Hand rub. ECG electrodes are similarly essential for conducting the tests. I have been deprived of these reimbursements. I am very disturbed as in process I have lost a substantial amount. Will someone kindly teach these lords who do not have any pain in causing this trouble to elderly insured persons with no other source of income to meet the expenses. The purpose of investing in this scheme is defeated if at this age the patient has to lose a substantial amount thus. I would like to know that are these items luxuries, Can laparoscopic surgery be conducted without camera? Are gloves, table sheets items of show and not essential medically? Is hand rub meant for perfuming the surgeons/ nurse's palm. I request you to kindly enlighten me on the same and if possible take up the issue at proper forum to compel UTI to reconsider its deductions. Regards.
