I take metoprolol 50 extended release. Since the drug is fat soluble, it is better taken with food. My question is, how many times in the day the drug is released? Based on that, should I take my evening night at any specific time?

Generally should be taken only once.

Hi, Metoprolol extended release is actually a different compound rather than different preparation of the same drug. The kinetics inside body is different for Metoprolol Succinate (extended release formula) compared to Tartrate (immediate release formula). The fat solubility has to do with its clearance rather than absorption. Please feel free to time this drug as is convenient for you rather than paying too much attention to its absorption. In general, these drugs are better tolerated with food (less chance to upset your stomach). Hope that helps. Take care.
