Dear lybrate-user. Although a picture shared would have been better. You seem to have elaborated the history well. In viral fever this kind of fixed red and bloody spot may be visible in the eye possibly due to a hemorrhage (bleeding). If your son has cough also then it can be because of excessive coughing. However, in most of the cases this will heal by itself over next few days to about a week. In case you observe that its increasing do consult an eye specialist. If no change, then wait and watch. If excessive cough may have precipitated it than please treat cough after consulting your doctor. A trivial trauma may also cause that sometimes, ask your son about it. Take care.
