Having tooth sensitivity problem. Even when she drinks normal water she says she has having little uneasiness in teeth. Do not have problem with hot drinks, like tea and milk she consume without any discomfort. Currently using Sensodent K toothpaste. Please recommend do she need any medical attention. Or change in tooth paste.

Dear Lybrate User, Sensitivity of teeth occurs when the outer layer of the tooth is lost exposing the inner dentinal layer and/or in cases where the gums have receded and root of the tooth is exposed. Using an antisensitivity paste only may not solve the problem. Decayed teeth or abraded teeth will need filling. Visiting a dentist nearby you is the best way to solve the dental problem.

Hello Lybrate user, sensitivity in teeth occurs when sensitive layer of dentin is exposed. In this case, you should visit your dentist. According to situation, toothpaste will be provided n treatment plan will be decided. Alon with toothpaste, use mouthwash twice daily.

A major cause of tooth sensitivity is root exposure. Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning along with desensitizing procedures and / or artificial enamel filling and / or root canal treatment. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person. Until then apply a desensitizing paste (Sensodyne Tooth paste) on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min until you brush your teeth with the same paste. DENTAL TIPS: - Visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.
