What is MSG? Is it bad for you?

What is MSG? Is it bad for you?
What is MSG? Is it bad for you?

Answers from Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D.

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a flavor enhancer commonly added to Chinese food, canned vegetables, soups and processed meats. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified MSG as a food ingredient that's "generally recognized as safe," but its use remains controversial. For this reason, when MSG is added to food, the FDA requires that it be listed on the label.

MSG has been used as a food additive for decades. Over the years, the FDA has received many anecdotal reports of adverse reactions to foods containing MSG. These reactions — known as MSG symptom complex — include:

Headache
Flushing
Sweating
Facial pressure or tightness
Numbness, tingling or burning in the face, neck and other areas
Rapid, fluttering heartbeats (heart palpitations)
Chest pain
Nausea
Weakness

However, researchers have found no definitive evidence of a link between MSG and these symptoms. Researchers acknowledge, though, that a small percentage of people may have short-term reactions to MSG. Symptoms are usually mild and don't require treatment. The only way to prevent a reaction is to avoid foods containing MSG.

What should I do to make sure I get all ...
It's a diet based on fruits, vegetables, tubers, whole grains, and legumes; and it excludes or minimizes meat (including chicken and fish), dairy products, and eggs, as well as highly refined foods like bleached flour, refined sugar, and oil.

When we should take foods in a day. What kinds of problem arises if we don't take foods in time.
Do not miss the breakfast at any cost, if you miss the breakfast there are more chances of gastritis and gastric headache in the initial age and then to gastric ulcer.

I think your case is not properly diagnosed. To rule out the allergic problem, please go for "allergy test" Any allergy specialist may carry out this report, to inquire then we will get proper line of treatment. Avoid to stay near costal region. If possible for you stay in dry and hot atmosphere. For time being start following treatment 1). Sitopaladi churna 2-2 gms 4 times a day while mixing with Honey. 2) Kanakasava 20_20 ml by Morning and night.

I am 17 years old age male my problem is that I have mucous and cold all time of the year and allergies from dust so, I request you to help me please.

DNB(Respiratory Diseases), MBBS
Pulmonologist, Jabalpur
You will benefit by identifying cause of your allergy and then planning treatment, mean while avoid dust exposure, tell in your home or office to do wet mopping of floors and surfaces instead of dusting dry. Use face masks in dusty outdoors, regular washing of beddings and pillow covers in hot water and drying in sunlight.

Why Homeopathy Is The Safest Remedy For Treating Cold & Cough?

Why Homeopathy Is The Safest Remedy For Treating Cold & Cough?

Common cold and cough is one of the most common viral illnesses that have no specific treatment. Allopathic medicines provide palliative cure to just treat the symptoms, there is no definite antiviral for it. There is also popular belief having cold once or twice a year is a good way to cleanse the body.

Here is the homeopathic treatment for it:

  1. Influenzinum - It is a homeopathic remedy for flu. The medicine, which is diluted and potentized, strengthens the immune system to fight against flu viruses. It does not suppress the symptoms but makes your immune system strong to not allow foreign viruses affect your health.
  2. Aconitum or aconite - Used in the early stages of a cold that was sudden in onset and severe. There could be associated nasal discharge, fever and chills, chest congestion, itchy throat, and a traumatic experience. The person may also feel thirsty, anxious, and agitated.
  3. Allium cepa - Severe burning and watery eyes, nasal irritation, copious amounts of discharge, hoarseness, and headache. The runny nose improves in open air, but worsens when being indoors.
  4. Aconite - This homeopathic medicine is recommended when the most preliminary signs of common cold appear, such as getting thirsty frequently and being overly-anxious.
  5. Belladonna - Belladonna is for more severe signs of cold, such as high fever and persistence of a throbbing headache.
  6. Natrum mur - This medicine is effective for a runny nose, with initially clear snot thickening after a period of 24-48 hours.
  7. Pulsatilla - yellow or greenish mucous, nasal congestion, mouth breathing are some symptoms where this is used. It is very commonly used in newborn babies, if the discharge colour is green or yellow. Associated symptoms include moodiness, easy crying, craving for attention, easily hurt and sensitive. Homeopathy does'cure' the cough and cold in patients, in the true sense of the word. That provides palliative care and holistic treatment of the condition too. Consult an Expert & get answers to your questions!
