Coming off medicines are decided based on the severeity of your illness. If you are diagnosed with an episode of severe depression or anxiety, usually it is recommended to take medicines for 12 months and gradually wean off. I can understand that you are getting married, an event like this can be stressful too. If your doctor has recommended 9 months ,you can discuss with your doctor to come off now gradually over a period of few months with regular monitoring.

Hi lybrate-user,
depression can be treated better with medication and therapies. You would have felt better probably due to medicines. Once been stopped your system failed to cooperate with your body and mind.
Few tips to help yourself:
(1) decide to live a happy life and stay focus on happiness only
(2) take help of your friends or family members to help you in the process
(3) engage yourself in some activities that doesn't require to think. Eg. Drawing, gardening

Along with medicines, talk therapy is required.
Only medicines will not solve depression. We need to identify the root cause of depression and solve it.
I recommend doing exercises and yoga daily.
Find good friends to share your feelings
keep your self engaged in studies/work/ any hobbies
good luck.

Good afternoon,
Although it may be an inconvenience to take medications on a daily basis, if NOT taking the medication is not an option and the medications are helping you, you should continue to take them. Unless you have made lifestyle modifications that have naturally improved your depressive symptoms, I believe you need to continue to take the medications. If you have further questions please consult a psychiatrist online and our expert Lybrate help desk will help you find one to suit ...more

Dear lybrate-user,
At the age of 72 years, ED has multiple causes. If you discuss ED with your psychiatrist, he will assess and investigate for ED. Once the causes are found, they can be treated.

I don't understand what you mean by your statement that you are not feeling well. You have not been in therapy for all these years is not a good sign. You must seek the help of a counselor and work on your issues, develop skills, tools and techniques to deal with your problems. So comply with all the medical prescriptions and work in tandem with a counselor for a long time and learn coping skills and techniques to handle the daily challenges you will face. There are certain adaptations that will...more

If veniz xr at the dose that you are taking has been helping you with depression and anxiety, I would certainly suggest that you continue to take this medication on a daily basis. I also hope that you continue to consult your regular psychiatrist on a frequent basis, as in once every 3 month at least. If you have further questions regarding any of the above kindly feel free to contact us.

37.5 mg is the lowest strength and you can directly stop it. But the more important point is if you are having relapses after stopping veniz. Then continue 37.5 for life as your body needs that bec of genetically less serotonin in your body. No side effect of the medicine.

Since you are already on medication I suggest you talk to your treating Psychiatrist and convey your current symptoms to them. It is possible that some changes in medication dosages will help improve the symptoms. As they are familiar with your history it is always better to have a discussion with them regarding this situation.
