For treating hypothyroidism the only therapy is to take adequate dosage of Levothyroxine and bring TSH level to around 3 to 4 mU/L. Since it is a hormone (Thyroxine) deficiency disorder, only supplementation of that hormone in the form of Levothyroxine is the treatment. Both Ayurveda and Homeopathy have no other treatment. Even though a lot of claims are made about treating or curing the condition. Thanks.

Can you let us know what the initial tsh was and if tpo antibodies were checked or not. If you have high levels (titres) of tpo antibodies you may have to continue thyroxine long-term

Your TSH is in normal ramge because of thyronorm tab. If you stop it TSH will rise means you land up in hypothyroid stat again. So do not stop it.

Mr. lybrate-user, Please tell me whether yu have been always overweight or obese?(BMI 30.06 kgs/M2). If weight increase has occured recently then it could be a problem due to sluggish thyroid functioning. In that situation you may need to take Thyroxine. Then that will help in bringing down TSH <3 mU/L and help weight reduction. Thanks.

We in ayurveda, take thyroid in agni mandhya (lack of metabolism). Its systemic disorder. There are good result of ayurveda, but result comes according to condition.

With TSh 8.4 mU/L there is no need for starting the medication. Because up to 9.9 mU/L the condition is considered as Sub-clinical. In that situation no treatment is advocated. However, if one has presence of troublesome symptoms then in some cases even with lower than 10 mU/L TSH, thyroxine is prescribed.

TSH 6.33 mU/L is considered as sub-clinical hypothyroidism. No treatment is advocated at this level. If a person has presence of uncontrolled symptoms even at that value, then L-thyroxine is prescribed.
Clinically hypothyroidism is diagnosed when TSH goes beyond 10 mU/L.
When one is put on Levothyroxine TSH does go down. Normal range is 0.5 to 5 mU/L. In short yes reduction is possible. Thanks.
