Hello, Thanks for the query.
Madam Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (HT) is an autoimmune disease leading to hypothyroidism. Symptoms of both the conditions are same. Treatmennt also is taking adequate dosage of levothyroxine and maintaining TSH around 3 to 4 mU/L. Some persons may have HT leading to hypothyroidism and others may have hypothyroidism without HT. Thanks.

Yasmin ji, Thanks for the query.
As you are on treatment for hypothyroidism, TSH should be ideally around 3 to 4 mU/L Therefore, present level of 5.898 mU/L is on the higher side, suggesting that hypothyroidism is not in control. Another aspect looking at our weight and height with a BMI of 30 Kgs/Sq meter you are already in grade 1 obesity. Your ideal body weight should be about 56 kgs, which means there is an excess of over 16 kgs. This also points to uncontrolled hypothyroidism. So ther...more

Dear Mr. lybrate-user,
the borderline high tsh levels over the last 3 years indicate that you have subclinical hypothyroidism. As the tsh is remaining more or less at the same level, it is not the cause for heart or liver problems. Thisonly needs once a year follow up and no medication at present

Lybrate-user, hashimoto's thyroiditis (ht), which is the autoimmune condition, causing hypothyroidism. Treatment is same like hypothyroidism. With thyroxine tablets. The problems mentioned could be part of the symptoms of ht. However, some times digestive problems may not be connected with that condition. It is better if you increase intake of green leafy vegetables and fruits, that will help in reducing this. Plus hypothyroidism has to be well controlled.

Mr. lybrate-user, Usually when TSH level is between 6 to 9.9 mU/L, condition is considered as subclinical hypothyroidism and no treatment is advocated. Sometime treatment is given if there is associated low T4 level and patient has severe symptoms of hypothyroidism. Since you have been already taking the drug, there is no option but to continue it. TSH 4.9 is with in the normal range, however, if you stop treatment, it will again go up. Thanks.
