Pep is a treatment taken after potential exposure to hiv to reduce the risk of infection. It is typically recommended to start pep as soon as possible, preferably within 72 hours but no later than 72 hours after exposure.
Stribild (formerly known as spegra) is one of the regimens used for pep, and it contains four different antiretroviral drugs: elvitegravir, cobicistat, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate. This combination has been approved for both hiv treatment and prevention...more

Dear, HIV spreads through Contact between broken skin, wounds, or mucous membranes and HIV-infected blood or blood-contaminated body fluids. Deep, open-mouth kissing if both partners have sores or bleeding gums and blood from the HIV-positive partner gets into the bloodstream of the HIV-negative partner. HIV is not spread through saliva. Take care.

Dear lybrate-user,
pep will help you, but they have given you wrong, incomplete and expensive course. Yes, pep should be taken, but It is better to do risk analysis first. Why don't you take a private consult with audio video chat and then I can guide you properly and explain you everything. Don't loose time, don't take unnecessarily heavy medicines.

There are 20 stds one can get exposed to during unprotected sex with unknown person. To better understand the importance of and risk and consequences of stds please take private consult with audio video chat and then I can guide you properly and tell you what is to be done.
As you have taken pep in time, you are protected ftom hiv but not from other stds.

Both pep regimens are wrong. The first obe is outdated and second one makes you crazy.
It seems you have been misguided or the physician you attended to is unaware of newer treatments and latest guidelines.

Hello sir, I understand your problem and it is highly unlikely that the syringe was used before. But if you are having any ideas of second time exposure to hiv you can go and get yourself tested in the lab you can ask them to perform viral marker hiv1 and hiv2 and also ask for antihbv and antihcv .kindly consult to me for more details at your convenience. Thanks.
