What you have used is a 20% podophyllium in benzoin. Podophyllin strength to be used recommended is 0.5% or a diluted solution. It results in burn due death of the normal cells because podophyllin causes cell death. The sore that occurred you will nothing but a burn and you will have pain and sore as like normal thermal burn. It looks like fungal infection, which is very common in sweaty regions like that. To prevent this, you got to keep this area dry.
While taking bath, gently scrub to remove the dead tissue in the region regularly. It is advisable to taken bath regularly. Apart from taking oral treatment with antibiotics and anti inflammatory medication I will suggest you to clean the wound with normal saline solution and do dry dressing and don't apply any ointment.

The way you are describing your pain, clearly indicates that the nerve inside the nerve is infected. Visit your dentist immediately and take X ray and start a root canal treatment and later cap should be done.
