You should try Psychotherapy along with Medication. Medication is going to have some or the other side effect but that can be handled by the Psychological therapy and guidance by Psychologist. Dear user, you are too young. But due to certain reasons if you are diagnosed with bipolar disorder you have to take some extra care of yourself. I do not want you to depend on medication solely. I want to know the whole details about your disorder. But I must say don't depend on the medicines and don't make it a habit for future. If your psychiatrist says, it is due to anxiety. Please believe it and deal with your anxiety in non medical methods. If he says that these medicines don't have side effect, like difficulty in passing urine. There may be other reasons for your difficulty which gets precipitated by any medicine. Lithium level is normal only, so lithium can be continued if other blood parameters are fine. On your mood symptoms discuss the lack of improvement with your treating psychiatrist, and try alternate medications if needed. Being open about no improvement will lead to the doctor taking note and doing away with medications that do not work. All the best.
