About Proluton Depot 500Mg/2Ml Injection

Proluton Depot 500Mg/2Ml Injection is a synthetic prescription medication given to pregnant women. It prevents the chances of an early delivery. This injection is given to women after the first trimester. This is a hormone medication that belongs to a category of drugs known as progestin.

This medicine is also used for the treatment of amenorrhea, abnormal uterine bleeding, endometriosis and uterine carcinoma. It needs to be administered into the muscles by trained hands only.

Do not use this injection If you have or are:

  • Allergic to any medicine, foods, substances or any of the ingredients contained within this injection.
  • Taking any prescriptive or non-prescriptive drugs, herbal, vitamins or dietary supplements.
  • Diabetes or high blood sugar.
  • Heart, liver or kidney problems.
  • Vaginal bleeding.
  • Breastfeeding a baby.
  • History of -
    • asthma or depression.
    • Epilepsy or any other kind of seizures.
    • Hormone-sensitive cancers.

The common side effects associated with Proluton Depot 500Mg/2Ml Injection are swelling, itching, nausea, tiredness, dizziness, fever, skin eruptions and pain at the site of injection. If any severe reactions arise seek the help of your health care provider as soon as possible.

Probable allergic reacions are redness, difficulty in breathing, severe swelling of the face, lips, mouth, throat, hands, ankles or feet, signs of depression and coughing up blood.

Proluton Depot 500Mg/2Ml Injection must be used with caution in patients with asthma, seizure disorders, migraine, cardiac or renal impairment, history of mental depression. Use of any progestin during the first 4 months of pregnancy is not recommended. And patients must be observed closely for signs and symptoms of thrombotic disorders.

        • Insulin: Report the use of insulin or any other anti-diabetic medicine to the doctor before receiving hydroxyprogesterone. You may need an adjusted dose of the antidiabetic medicine and more frequent monitoring of blood glucose level in such cases.
        • Paracetamol: Use of this medicine may reduce or diminish the effect of paracetamol. You may need a dose adjustment and more frequent monitoring to safely use these medicines. Do not stop the use of any medicine without consulting your doctor.

        • Breast Cancer: Use of this medicine is not recommended for patients having an active case of breast cancer or are suspected of having it.         • Liver Disease: Use of this medicine is not recommended if the patient has a liver disease or the normal liver function is impaired.

        • Retinal Thrombosis: Use of this medicine can sometimes cause a loss of vision by blocking the flow of blood from the retina to the heart. Hence caution should be exercised while using it and any abnormality in vision should be reported to the doctor.
