I have horrible back pain. I have been perceived very very strong pain medication and it does nothing. I have been on codeine, tramadol, hydrocodone, morphine, dilaudid, oxycodone, buprenorphine, and hydromorphone. Nothing works. I have been given that medication by pills, shots and i.v's. I have been on 4 32 mg of hydromorphone and it does nothing for me in fact I don't even feel an side effects. This medication should knock out an elephant but it does nothing at all for my pain. Medication that should bring a 400lbs to the ground does not even effect me and 160lbs woman. I don't take the medication regularly so it should help with my pain but nothing. I'm also on 30 mg of diazepam and that to does nothing for me. I feel like i'm going to be looked at as a drug seeker. That could not be any further from the truth. I just want pain relief. I can't explain why my body just does not respond properly to any drugs. I'm really at a loss right now. My pain is so bad I can't roll over in bed and when it spikes I can't breathe.

Are you addicted to them, there is no medication as such for codeine addiction and try to boost up your mind in avoiding the same. There is no de-addiction as such for codeine addiction.

I have been on cough syrups, codeine along with benzodiazepines got the last teeny five years. I have been trying to quit for sometime now. Mentally it is not an issue because of some strict mediation practices but I am facing issues with my bowel movement which is a major concern as the bowlels simply lose any movement and secondly my neck is all twisted and my body totally unbalanced by which I mean the right and left do not sign properly. I can handle sleep issues but stomach or bowel related and my twisted neck where it seems as if my shoulder to neck veins are all twisted upto my ears so that the relative position of my ears keep shifting leaving scars marked by the shifting skin over the bones around my neck and shoulder areas besides producing a tension on my right cheek because of which it looks awful black and corrupted skin. Can you please help me or suggest. Of I go to doctors they ask me to go to the deaddictions center or consult a psychologist. I don't need that for I can leave the substance abuse on my own as I have done already but it is the physical issues that are troubling me. Please suggest something esp for my bowel movements and for my twisted and tense nerves. Thanks.

Hello, as you have already left the addiction its very positive for your health. For bowel movement what I will suggest is to take care of your diet. Eat leafy vegetables, salads more than the chapati or rice. Include curd in diet. You can have buttermilk daily. Avoid nonveg for somedays or reduce intake of nonveg. Do regular exercise. Drink plenty of water. Drink warm water in morning after waking. One more thing I will suggest is take aloe vera pulp daily 2 spoons. After this small changes and...more

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Codeine addiction comes under SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND ADDICTION. Deaddiction treatment is best suited for such addictions. Medically assisted drug detoxification or alcohol detoxification alone is ineffective as a treatment for addiction. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) recommends detoxification followed by both medication (where applicable) and behavioral therapy, followed by relapse prevention.
